Mineração Ana da Cruz S.A. In Nova Lima, a city neighboring Belo Horizonte, is the Ana da Cruz farm, a property that lends its name to Mineração Ana da Cruz S.A., a company controlled by Cowan. The farm covers an area of 1400 hectares with a perimeter of over 20km, and is side by side with the extinct mine of Águas Claras, exploited to total depletion by Minerações Brasileiras Reunidas – MBR, today, Vale (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce). For years, the greatest concentration in the world of 15% iron ore hematite was exploited. Cowan is now analyzing projects for the optimization of mining activities in Ana da Cruz, where research has indicated the existence of hematite of the same content as the hematite found in Águas Claras. The work includes probing and logistics studies for the transport of the iron ore.
